Sold in Oregon, Historical Oregon Trademarks is a collection of late nineteenth and early twentieth century products from Oregon and their trademarks. Some favorites are Beaver Brand Prunes, all of the Salmon Labels and Defiance Baking Powder.

PBS brings us more reality TV goodness with Manor House. I am appalled at how oblivious the upstairs family is to the plight of their servants. Then again, I'm also amazed at some of the servants’ inability to suck it up and deal (with a name like scullery maid, do you think it's going to be a fun job?) The cook's insanity and terrorizing of the kitchen staff is no surprise at all, that behavior is timeless.

I can't believe how excited I am about the prospect of a new nickel!

This weekend, the American Visionary Arts Museum is sponsoring the 5th annual Kinetic Sculpture Race. Last year was tons of fun rooting for the Grape Stompers [scroll down], this year I'm supporting the giant teapot.

I've cleaned up the Library Blog list a bit. I can't possibly hope to be comprehensive, so I'm just listing my favorites.

I find it heartwarnimg that Cuba has a "ministry of hip-hop" that provides a state-run record label and hip-hop magazine, and began supports the annual Cuban Hip Hop festival.

Apparently, the lure of the TV is much more difficult to resist when one is awake. But then again, Tuesday night is a good TV night. After all, how could I miss 106 and Park, Gilmore Girls, Platinum, Lucky and Howard Stern?

Walmart has shut down Re-code.com which was a site that allowed you to "name your own price" (ala priceline.com) by printing out your own barcodes. What humorless spoilsports.

Although not completely buying into the TV-fast idea, I did decide to be more conscientious and habitually turn on the TV as soon as I got home. I looked through the TV guide and since there was nothing I needed to watch, (I was tempted by the three-hour block of Stargate SG1.) I didn't turn it on. Then I promptly fell asleep. I don't know how proud I can be that I took a nap with the TV off instead of on, and who knows how long it would have stayed off if I were awake.

A little post-Easter library fun. Peeps Research.

I was going to turn off the television this week. This MetaFilter discussion has emboldened me to say "Screw It!" I don't have to say, "I don't even own a TV." to be cool. I can say, "I don't even own a radio, cd-player or computer." and be much cooler.

Easter is this Sunday. This site features eggs decorated to feature each of the fifty states, and the District of Columbia. Learn Pysanky features the obsessively compulsively compelling art also known and Ukrainian eggs.

I have no strong feelings one way or the other about supermarket loyalty cards (oddly enough). My father, however, staunchly opposes them, as do these folks.

I'm back. I believe that my visit to Fallingwater was my favorite part of my trip.

I will be away for a while at the Nemacolin Woodlands in the Laural Highlands, celebrating my maternal grandmother's 90th birthday!

My pedometer readings range from zero (home sick) to ~7,000 regular day to ~12,000 walked home from work.

Here are a couple of history links for Oregon and the PNW.
The Pacific Northwest Newspaper Clippings Collection contains a selection of over 13,700 newpaper articles from the Pacific Northwest Newspaper Clippings Collection. The articles were collected and organized in the late 1930's by dedicated historians working for the Works Progress Administration.
Also, the Oregon History Project. Which is a bit less maniacal.
